Bringing together some works from the different series of the project Reveal memory from oblivion, started in 2010, the National Museum of Ancient Art hosts the exhibition Boba Kana Muthu Wzela: Here is Forbidden To Speak!by JRicardo Rodrigues. From 22 October to 9 January 2022. This temporary exposure was extended until 31 January 2022.
Starting from the place occupied by the MNAA, in the vicinity of the once African neighborhood of Mocambo, territory of "forbidden languages" born in the sixteenth century and now practically erased, the exhibition reimagines a forgotten African presence, evoking characters and real or allegorical contexts, such as the dreams and nightmares of a Marquis of Pombal with another biography.
In large-format photographic stagings that dialogue with the artistic tradition present in the Museum's collection (even if not explicitly), JRicardo Rodrigues reconfigures the memory from the absence, crossing the past with contemporary times and questioning continuities, contrasts and inheritances.
